Guests of honour at a Cambodian Wedding
The morning after the grand tour of Angkor, we realised there was noting we could do or see that will top that, so without a plan, we took our bicycles and went out to explore the city and its surroundings. We stopped a couple of times to admire the monuments around, and were happy to get in the middle of praying in one of the few temples around. Peoples generosity it’s unexplainable, every single one of them is trying to take us through the rituals and teach you hot to pray properly. Peaceful life and belief in karma is what makes this people loveable, wise, cultured.
In the middle of our wandering we overheard there is temple and a lake around Siem Reap, and no other questions to be asked, we moved to a direction of the lake. 15 minutes later we found ourselves on a street with a house where there was a wedding celebration. The males, who were heavily drinking in the yard, invited us to join them for a while, so we went. We couldn’t spot the bride or any female companion, and after we learned that was the custom, the bride and all the females had a different celebration in the back of the yard. Also, this was the second part of the wedding; apparently the guests are separated into two groups, in the morning and in the afternoon.
Drinking the warm beer they offered wasn’t getting us in a party mood so we continued our search for the lake and temple. Deep inside the forest, where our bicycles were slowing down from the heavy road, we found the lake. At the end of the road we saw a beautiful resting place with hammocks and nice people offering a cold beer or soda, looking towards the lake.
It was getting darker so we stopped there; almost fall a sleep in the comfortable hammocks the nice people tied for us. Imagined living there forever, in that peaceful spot on earth where material world doesn’t exist.
