Bye Bye Full Moon Party and Hallo Haad Peaceful Salad

Haad Salad Beach Wood, bye bye Full Moon Party
Full Moon Party was awful.Got up the next morning to have a soup. The streets looked like there was a war going on there last night. Could spot people still going on with the party from yesterday. We went straight to the beach, what was supposed to be the sandy amazing beach of Thailand. Trash everywhere, the awful buckets and straws everywhere, even in the water, swimsuits and flip flops, bottles of alcohol, even the food in the restaurants has adopted the western style, so you don’t feel as far away from home. Some deep-fried of everything you can imagine, hamburgers and pizzas for the silly tourists, not according to our plan. so we decided right there and then we are not staying not even a minute longer.

It was a bit difficult to explain the Thai owners of the room that we have to leave, so we pitch in few hundred baht to calm them down. Got in one of the pick-up taxis and went to the other side of the island, with no idea of what to expect. We randomly choose Haad Salad, an area some of the older tourists we met described as a place for retired people, quiet and peaceful. We didn’t think twice. There were only few shops on the beginning of the road that goes to the beach, one western style restaurant and noting more. The moment we step on the long sandy beach and saw only few people there, we knew we are on the right place. We all know its a season to be in Thailand, and it was 1st of January back then, so you cant expect the lowest price. Still we got a bungalow that cost us no more than 400 baht per person, and we were pleased with what we got. When you walk down the beach all you can see is the nice restaurants with no more than 10 tables each, masseurs giving a massage right there on spot for 250 baht for one hour, nice local music played live in the bars. The same night we went to one of our favorite places called “My Way”, where we enjoyed the fresh caught fish on the grill and the lovely interpretation of Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd songs from the Thai people. It was the moment we felt we are in the right place.

What we learned:

“Local” is always a better choice.
